What is Pern Alliance?

Pern Alliance is friendly group of clubs not related by any particular playing format or timeline, plus resource sites that are of interest to Pern clubs in general. To post on our Message Board Forum, you do not have to be a member of the Alliance, and advice is offered freely to anyone who drops by! Our main goal is to provide a means for those who participate in Pern Fandom to pool their experience and get to know each other in a friendly setting

Our main method of communication is through a message board forum so that anyone needing help does not have to join a mailing list just to gain help with one simple question, should they not wish to join the Alliance at this time.

Actually joining the Pern Alliance provides member club representatives with access to private forums in addition to the open, public ones to discuss the various problems of administration of a Pern club - which lets face it, is not of direct interest to everyone in Pern Fandom, but of considerable interest who deal with these sorts of issues day in and day out!. Assistance from other club owners with website and mailing list technical issues is provided in the public forums along with more general areas of discussion, with more specific administrative issues taking place in the Members forums. If our member clubs have a problem, they can rest assured they will have the entire Alliance supporting them through whatever assistance is needed.

As for membership, we will never discriminate against a club for being a splinter group from another organization - our intention is to get as many groups together as possible, not to exclude them!. Our only request is that any club abide by the official Anne McCaffrey fanfiction rules before they apply.

What Doesn't Pern Alliance Do?

We don't attempt to regulate any Weyr, but we do ask that each member Weyr's owner sign an ethics agreement upon joining. This ethics agreement is a guideline for member treatment to keep things amicable and pleasant for all involved. Multiple proven complaints by members can result in a removal from Alliance membership.

Is Pern Alliance Official?

If by official, do you mean we applied for website approval and made sure the site fit all copyright issues relating to Anne McCaffrey and Dragonriders of Pern®, then yes. They kindly looked over the site and approved us in March 2002. If you mean does anything we do (webwork, opinions offered on the forums, etc), hold official sanction of Anne McCaffrey, a resounding no. This is a fan-run organization designed to help out other fans. We are not an 'official' site and our only 'regulatory' power is that which members agree to - play nice, play fair, and we'll bend over backwards to help your club out.
